The selective synthesis of sulfonate surfactants with side chains containing ether- and hydroxy groups was carried out using cyclic sulfates as epoxide analogues. The main chain was elaborated from 1,2-dodecane sulfate by the addition of various hydroxy/alkoxysulfonates.
